What we were actually asked to fix.
Four layers of siding, two of roofing, and a verandah that had settled 60mm at the outer posts. The owners wanted the house to look like itself again — not like a 2024 renovation of an old house.
We photographed and measured every trim profile before removal, then reproduced the casing, frieze and porch brackets on the shop moulder from the originals.
People stop their cars now. It looks like the house our grandmother grew up in.

The surprise, and what it cost.
Behind the third layer of siding we found 4m of sill plate gone to powder. The house went up on cribbing for six days while the sill was replaced in sections — the only part of the schedule that moved, by four days.
Where it landed.
An envelope good for another fifty years, and a street elevation the local heritage committee asked to photograph for their own files.
